Clinical modules are held at BreastScreen SA’s Mammography Education Centre, which is located within the University of South Australia (UniSA) City East Campus. This comprehensive clinical training week is conducted on a one-to-one basis, under the direct supervision of a specialist mammography educator. An example program is available below.

The syllabus has been developed to meet the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, ASMIRT educational requirements of a clinical component of the ASMIRT Certificate of Mammographic Practice.

Assessment

Clinical module participants are required to complete the following:

  • Satisfactory tutor assessment following fifty (50) supervised mammograms.
  • Evidence of 200 mammograms performed and appraised at the home department.
  • Achieve a pass grade on their final image quality assessment.
  • Multiple choice questions (30%), Short Answer Questions (70%). A 50% attainment level is required to pass the module.

Cost

The fee for the Academic Module is $1,200 (GST inclusive). Modules are offered at no charge to radiographers employed by BreastScreen SA.

Enrolment

Clinical modules are available throughout the year. Limited places are available for non-BreastScreen Australia participants.

The dates currently available are:

  • 18 – 22 March 2024
  • 15 – 19 April 2024
  • 13 – 17 May 2024
  • 15 – 19 July 2024
  • 9 – 13 September 2024
  • 23 – 27 September 2024

Due to the high demand for clinical placements, BreastScreen SA cannot guarantee a placement.

Pre-enrolment requirements

As this module involves direct contact with BreastScreen SA clients, all prospective trainees are required to provide evidence of the following:

  • AHPRA Registration as a diagnostic radiographer
  • Current State Radiation Licence
  • Current National Police Clearance (NPC) or DHS Vulnerable Person-Related Employment Screening Clearance
  • Health Care Worker Immunisation Screening Compliance Declaration for Students, Category A

Once all evidence has been received and the immunisation check completed, you will receive a confirmation letter confirming your clinical module placement.
