BreastScreen SA has introduced a pop-up clinic in Mount Barker to provide women in the area with access to life-saving breast cancer screening closer to home.
BreastScreen SA Program Director, Niamh Wade, said a new mammography unit had been temporarily installed at the Summit Health Centre to meet the growing demand for screening in the region.
“We are delighted to see that women living in the Adelaide Hills region have been prioritising their health by booking in for a free screening mammogram at near record numbers,” Ms Wade said.
“It is important that women over 40 years, especially those aged 50 to 74, have a breast screen every two years to check for subtle breast tissue changes, so we’ve partnered with Summit Health to create a dedicated pop-up clinic for the women of Mount Barker and surrounds.
“This pop-up clinic will be available over the next seven months to ensure women in the area have timely access to our service, closer to home, while we continue to assess the increased delivery of services in the region, while we continue to assess the increased delivery of services in the region.”
The mobile screening unit visits Mount Barker every two years and screens around 4,000 women over a six-month period. Its latest visit concluded in February 2021.
Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network Chief Executive Officer, Rebecca Graham, said the opening of a new pop-up clinic in the Adelaide Hills is welcome news for the region.
“We are delighted to have a dedicated breast screening pop-up clinic located in Mount Barker,” Ms Graham said.
“We know that regular breast screening can have a significant impact on positive patient outcomes and we hope that women living in the region will take up the opportunity to be screened at this new, convenient location.”
The pop-up clinic will be available at the Summit Health Centre until Friday 17 June 2022.
Women living in the area are encouraged to call BreastScreen SA on 13 20 50 to make a free appointment.
