South Australian women can now consent online to have their breast screen and save time at their appointment

Since September 2023, almost 200,000 women have booked an appointment online through BreastScreen SA's website. Now women who book online will be able to complete their consent to have a breast screen digitally, saving time and paperwork at their appointment.

Women can book online for all 12 BreastScreen SA clinics, including 9 fixed screening clinics and 3 mobile screening units. They can choose to complete their consent online straight after booking, or return to consent later through a private link sent to their phone or email. Online consent uses pre-filled information from the booking, saving women time answering repeated questions on paper consent forms at their appointment.

Like online bookings, consent can take as little as five minutes and be completed from a computer or even mobile phone while on the go.

BreastScreen SA Program Director, Dr Lauren Civetta, said the online consent portal was an important improvement that made the consent process simpler and more convenient for women.

"We've listened to feedback from our clients, who told us they wanted the option to complete their consent forms online. By introducing online consent, women who book online can now manage their appointment and consent in one streamlined process," Dr Civetta said.

"Not only will this save time for our clients, it will also reduce paperwork and allow our clinic staff to focus more on supporting women throughout their screening experience."

Women who book their appointment through the BreastScreen SA Contact Centre will continue to receive a paper consent form to complete before their screening appointment. Paper consent forms will still be available at all BreastScreen SA clinics for women who do not wish to consent online.
